يَسَّرْنَا : we have made easy

#root: يُسْر : ease
#of times in in Sūra al-Qamar alone: 11

Sūra al-Qamar 54: 17, 22, 32, 40

Our Qur’anic word today is also to do with the Qur’an, and you will have heard it recited in Sūra al-Qamar in today’s juz’. The word is يَسَّرْنَا - which we means: we have made easy, or we have facilitated. It’s also a very easy word to pronounce. It’s mentioned about 11 times in the Qur’an, and most of them are in Sūra al-Qamar.

So what exactly has Allah made easy? He says:

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

Certainly, We have made the Quran easy for ذكر . So is there anyone who will be admonished?

He has made the Qur’an easy to remember, to take heed from, and to get guidance from.

The ease is on several different levels:

  1. It’s easy to pronounce, and recite. It flows off the tongue, and is easy to remember.

  2. It’s easy to be guided by its guidance, because it reminds us of what we already know inside. It’s a dhikr, not new knowledge.

  3. It’s repetitive in many places, so it drums in the message, like mantras.

May we appreciate His ease and take it upon ourselves to heed and respond to His repeated advice.
